The Stage 32 Videos: Action Sports

A short presentation of my video editor and videographer work.

Here's the hype video I made for last week's game using footage I got at the Johnson vs Roosevelt game the week before that. I'm super proud of this video, I feel like I'm learning more about creating a smart smooth workflow when editing, and I think this video is just absolutely beautiful for it. This video in particular was so much fun to make, being in the locker room when the coach gave that speech was exhilarating. Every time all the guys yelled Brotherhood together, the locker room shook, and I felt that force in my chest. It really made me reflect on the Brotherhood and love in my life, as I've been able to witness the football team grow closer and closer together. I'm just so grateful to be able to do this.

Johnson is undefeated after a 38-09 shutout! This game was definitely more difficult than usual since it started at 11am in the Texas heat. I definitely wasn't at my creative best this game in the heat with a rumbling stomach. I also don't have any ND filters that fit my lense (I've been using the 18-150mm that comes with the Canon R7, and since its a crop sensor that can do a 4k crop, it works great), so I had to close my aperture up a lot. My camera didn't overheat though despite being in direct sun for a few hours recording 4k 60 for most of the game. I also think I got my shutter speed down this game, it doesn't look as blurry as when I did 2x. its sharper, and the motion blur still looks pretty fluid. So yeah interesting game, it was definitely a bit wonky but I still got some awesome shots I love (like bro the heat waves in the kick off!?!, or just any of the pre drop stuff).

Game 2, a 47-21 win for Johnson! For this video I was able to get locker room access before the game started and used audio from the head coach's speech. I really like using coach speeches for the videos, I feel like it makes them more personal and have more energy so this one was also super fun. I don't think I did the best job managing the nat sounds from the actual game, but I wanted to highlight the speech more.

First game of the season! Johnson won the game 24-21 with a field goal in the last 5 seconds! It was a really fun game, but I had some troubles getting into the groove when filming, but I think this one turned out beautifully.

Leander Vyvey have been professional kitesurfer since long time ago. He has been KPWT Vice World Champion kitesurfing (2008 and 2009 ) and 4 times Belgium champion. Now he return to kitesurfing again after 3 years without being able to kite because of a serious injury . Taking advantage of this forced break, and his experience traveling over the world's best spots for kitesurf, he created his own project: the company WindfishPro, and organize trips to kite spots around the world, specially to Dakhla in Morocco. Leander ( sponsored before by BEST Kiteboarding ) recently joined to # WAINMANN HAWAII, and we wanted to take advantage of the global presentation of its new kite # maniac to tell this story, the story of his return to the world of kite at the highest level , even though doctors told him he would never do it again. The video was shot between Tarifa and Marbella, in winter, and quite difficult recording conditions . January and February are difficult months for kiting here : strong wind , rain, cold ... but we think it was worth the effort. Hope you like it! Share it!!
